Nvidia stock fell sharply on Thursday, November 5, 2026, as a wide selloff in chip shares deepened. One market report put the drop near 9% at its worst point, which would be the chipmaker’s roughest day since January 2025. The move sent Nvidia to roughly $182 a share, far below the $202 it closed at just three days earlier.

Why Nvidia stock dropped on November 5

No single Nvidia announcement triggered the fall. Reports point to a mix of worries hitting the whole sector at once. TradingKey said Nvidia opened down 4.09% on the day, while the technology equipment sector fell 3.69%. Micron dropped 8.07% and AMD fell 10.92% in the same session, according to that report.

How far Nvidia stock has fallen from its high

According to Blockonomi, Nvidia traded at $182.52, down $17.61 or 8.80%, and briefly fell more than 9% during the session. The same report says the stock has lost nearly a quarter of its value since its closing high on October 6, wiping out roughly $1.4 trillion in market value. It also notes the shares are below their 200-day moving average and heading for a fifth straight weekly loss.

Nov 2$202.06 closeDown 1.26%; market cap about $4.87 trillion
Nov 5About $182.52Down 8.80% at the time of the Blockonomi report

The Nov 2 and 52-week figures come from HeyGoTrade, which also noted that the chip sector was already under pressure that day. The wider chip group has taken heavy losses too. Blockonomi says the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index sits more than a third below its June high.

The politics behind the chip selloff

Blockonomi linked part of the slide to Tuesday’s midterm elections. It reports that Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress and that candidates from both parties had criticized data centers for electricity demand, higher power bills and strain on the grid. That raises the odds of tougher rules for the facilities that run Nvidia’s chips.

Analysts were more measured before the vote. Traders Union quoted Raymond James analyst Ed Mills as saying Democrats may focus on a possible data center moratorium, though he did not expect one to pass. Morgan Stanley’s Ariana Salvatore argued a change in power may matter less than investors expect. The same piece noted the VanEck Semiconductor ETF was up 74% for the year before the slide, which shows how much had to be priced out.

What happens next for Nvidia stock

The next big checkpoint is earnings. Nvidia is scheduled to report fiscal third-quarter 2027 results on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, with a call at 5 p.m. Eastern, per HeyGoTrade. The company has guided to revenue of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%.

Until then, expect the stock to follow the wider chip group and any news on data center rules or China export licenses. For a look at how a single missed metric can move a big tech name, see our recent coverage of Shopify’s earnings drop, or browse more in Business and the latest stories.
