iOS 27.2 Suggested Actions turn the messages you get into one-tap shortcuts. Apple’s Messages app can now read the context of a conversation and offer to add a dinner plan to Calendar, set a reminder or track a package, without you copying anything by hand.

The feature is part of iOS 27.2, and it comes with a separate switch for each type of suggestion. Here is what it does, how to control it and where reports disagree.

What iOS 27.2 Suggested Actions do

Apple lists “Suggestions in Messages” in the iOS 27 update notes, describing them as a way to act on the context of your conversations, such as adding a dinner invitation to Calendar. The same page says they can also trigger quick actions in apps like Calendar and Reminders.

iThinkDiff reports that the suggestion shows up as a chip in the keyboard toolbar. Gear Patrol describes buttons beneath relevant messages. The exact placement may differ by situation, so expect to see it near the conversation either way.

The five types of Suggested Actions

Both outlets list the same five categories:

  • **Calendar:** Create an event when someone proposes a plan.
  • **Reminders:** Add a task from something a friend or colleague asks.
  • **Notes:** Save shared information.
  • **Maps:** Open an address in Maps.
  • **Tracking:** Check flight or package details.

Gear Patrol says all five are on by default after you install the update.

How to turn iOS 27.2 Suggested Actions on or off

Open Settings, tap Apps, choose Messages, then tap Suggested Actions. Each type has its own switch, according to iThinkDiff, so you can keep calendar suggestions and drop the rest. The per-type controls were first spotted in iOS 27.2 beta 3.

iThinkDiff also mentions a “Hide Unused Suggestions” option that appeared in beta code and reportedly hides suggestions you do not use after 30 days. Apple’s notes do not mention it, so check Settings after updating before relying on it.

Which iPhones get Suggested Actions in iOS 27.2?

Reports differ here. iThinkDiff says iPhone 11 and later can install iOS 27.2 and lists no separate requirement for this feature. Gear Patrol says the feature needs Apple Intelligence, which it puts at iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 and later. Apple’s notes tie the new Siri AI features to iPhone 16 models and later and the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, but do not spell out a requirement for Messages suggestions. The safest reading: the update is broadly available, while the smart suggestions may depend on your model.

Apple’s page lists the feature as available in English. According to iThinkDiff, Messages suggestions were pulled before the September 14 iOS 27 launch, which makes this their first public release.

What else is in iOS 27.2

Suggested Actions are not the only change. Apple’s notes say iOS 27.2 also expands Siri AI: Siri can recall past conversations, draw on more sources such as photos attached in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails and Safari history, and let you exclude apps from Siri, Search and suggestions. Siri AI adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, and Apple says it is not available in the EU or mainland China.

Elsewhere, Shared Albums in Photos get caption and comment editing and a reminder before an album expires. Apple also lists SynthID watermarking to help identify generated or modified images in Photos and Image Playground, a clearer Home tab in Podcasts, simple profiles in Apple TV and support for adding a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a FaceTime call. Bug fixes and security updates are included too.

How to get the update

Open Settings, tap General, then Software Update, and install iOS 27.2 if it is offered. After the restart, open a conversation in Messages that mentions a plan, an address or a tracking number and see whether a suggestion appears. If it does not, check Settings, Apps, Messages, Suggested Actions to confirm the types you want are switched on.

Why this matters

Small time savers add up. If you plan dinners, deliveries or flights over text, Suggested Actions remove the copy-and-paste step. Because each type has its own switch, you also keep control over what Messages is allowed to suggest.
